Vegan Street Fair (Russian Eco Week 2017)
To all my fellow vegans… I know your struggle. Finding good vegan food on your travels can be damn near impossible. So I am going to share some of my vegan experiences and tips from my recent trip to Russia. I visited Saint Petersburg and Moscow during this trip.
Saint Petersburg was very vegan friendly and finding delicious meals was not an issue.
Zoom was probably the funnest restaurant I visited, they give you colored pencils to draw on the tables with while you wait for your food. They have the best vegan borscht, amazing home fries and hummus.
Café Ukrop was super delicious as well, they are fully vegetarian and have endless vegan options. They have five locations in Saint Petersburg so finding one should be easy. The zucchini pasta, mushroom soup, and falafel were tasty but my absolute fav was the raw blueberry cake.
Baraka Vegetarian is my top pick, everything from the decor to the mouthwatering vegan Moroccan food was perfect. The vegan pastrami platter, mushroom dumplings, and lulya kebab was the best food I had during my whole trip to Russia.
Moscow was another city I visited and the vegan food there was awesome as well. Most of the vegan restaurants that I ate at were easily accessible and minutes away from the Red Square.
Avocado was the first vegetarian restaurant I visited. They have many raw and vegan dishes as well, and their menu is color coded separating vegetarian, vegan and raw options. I really enjoyed the pelimeni (Russian dumplings) with mashed potatoes and mushrooms, but my favorite was the black bun vegan burger, for dessert I ordered napoleon cake. The food was incredible and affordable. My whole meal cost about 1090 rubles or $17.
Fresh restaurant was very delicious but a bit more pricey than the other places. Their menu is a healthier take on vegan food. They offer detox juices/shots and many more raw options. Since I’m not a huge fan of raw food, I opted for the onion rings, quesadilla, powerhouse bowl and avocado raspberry mousse for dessert. The total cost of my meal was approximately 2140 rubles or $35.
